Can I send this to my parents?  




The kitchen table doesn't usually look like this, but there's a list of relatives who always need a copy of the newest story. Plus one to my childhood pal Darin, who now lives in Alaska and was in the same college writing workshop where I wrote the first draft of "Pietro Coppino," way back in 1989....

I'd say "hell yeah, send it to your parents," except that then I realized the exposed fantasy nipplage would probably distract them from your name right there in giant bright yellow type.

I'm calling this the Nipple Issue. There are nipples everywhere in this issue. Not that that's a bad thing.

I'm definitely sending it to my parents; I always do, and they'll be happy to get it. (When I was much younger, my father always encouraged me to submit to Playboy. I'm not sure if he wanted the big paycheck for me or the excuse to buy a copy for him.) But the cleavage on the cover (not to mention the deployment of that sword!) gave me a little pause.

A friend at work read the story yesterday and told me, "It seems a little ... high-brow for this magazine." That's the paradox that is Realms of Fantasy.
