"Retrogression" progression
I'm not one to announce my daily word count, but I will say that progress is beginning to be made. Today it was made at a Starbucks on Greenview after I got my B12 shot at the doctor's office. Yes, it turns out I have quite a B12 deficiency, which might explain the tingling I sometimes feel in my back and legs, not to mention my frequent fatigue and general lack of energy. I think it's too early to chalk today's productivity up to the vitamin boost, though.

What does B12 do?

Vitamin B12 is important for the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system, and for the formation of blood. It is normally involved in the metabolism of every cell of the body, especially affecting DNA synthesis and regulation, but also fatty acid synthesis and energy production. At levels only slightly lower than normal, a range of symptoms such as fatigue, depression, and poor memory may be experienced.

Huh. Perhaps I'm low on it. I'm certainly fatigued, forgetful, and depressed.

Do you have stomach problems? (I do.) Apparently people with GERD and like conditions have a harder time absorbing B12 from food. Knowing this now, I'm wondering why none of my previous doctors caught the deficiency.

Good to hear it! I have been taking B12 supplements for a while too, for similar reasons. Not sure if I'm noticing a difference.

GERD does affect it as do the drugs people take to reduce stomach acid and such. Dark green vegetables and red meat are helpful. Go have a steak dinner with a side of spinach. :)

Good advice. Yum!

How long have you been taking the supplements? My doctor seemed to think a monthly shot would be more effective. She'll retest me in a few months to see if my level is better.

At least that was the only number in my blood tests that was off!

My levels were not below normal, but at the low end of normal, so perhaps that's why she recommended supplements instead of shots.
